SUMMER!!

by Adventurous Learning Childcare on 08/15/19

I believe Summer is a time when a kid should be a kid. When I was a little girl in the late 60's I would play outside with my friends until I was hungry or thirsty. Satisfy my needs and go right back to the play, until dinner time.

I try to recreate that for the children in this Preschool. Obviously they need to be under supervision, but for me summer is about letting them just play.
Play in the sand, and water, hot afternoons in the sprinkler with popsicles. Trips to the library for the summer reading program, making Ice Cream, Side walk chalk, riding bikes, swinging, helping in the garden... The list goes on and on.
Of course there is also practicing writing, and we still go through all the learning of circle time. In addition this summer we are doing all diffenrent forms of art. I have posted some of it on Facebook at NewbergAdventurousLearning if you would like to see.
It has been a summer full of fun and learning!!

Blast off to Space

by Adventurous Learning Childcare on 03/10/18

Every day during our circle time we name all the planets and give facts about them as I point to them on the wall. Some days we watch the Planet Rap song, by the Story Bots on U-tube, which the children love!

So this month we are taking it a step further and doing a unit on Space. Not only are we learning about each planet, we will learn about the moon, sun, stars, gravity, astronauts, of course rocket ships and so much more. While having so much fun making volcanos and making red dust storms. It can get messy but it's in this mess that discovery happens. the children are learning science, math, and reasoning, along with creative development. The children naturally wonder about their world. We will have a blast exploring the world around them.

Christmas through the eyes of Children

by Adventurous Learning Childcare on 11/25/17

This time of year is magical through the eyes of children. It brings me such joy to just watch the wonder in the children's eyes!

I buy a tree and have it all set up to surprise the children when they come to school.  We decorate it with ornaments given to me from the families. Home made are my favorite. During this season we make hand made ornaments and hang them on our tree, they then get to take them home at the beginning of Christmas break. This year we are closed Dec. 25th and Dec 26th.
I buy and wrap a simple gift for them. I ask them to find their name under the tree. (name recognition) I love the excitement when I tell the children they have a gift under our tree.
They also love making a gift for their family. I feel it is important to share with them the joy of giving.
In addition to our learning routines, this time of year brings the excitement of the season that is so wonderful through the eyes of a child.
